<p dir="auto">If you think about it, the circumstances of her leaving were similar to Lilja's. She ran off with some new boyfriend who promised her happiness in another country and then was never heard from again. The aunt did say at one point that the mom had been a prostitute.<br />
She's still a bitch for leaving the daughter, but I wonder if she actually made to America.</p>

<p dir="auto">I very much doubt it, she was a bit hefty and elderly to be a target for people traffickers.  The circumstances of her leaving were probably supposed to be an ironic parallel to Lilya's, in that she left for the USA on her own volition.<br />
