This is one line I don't get at the wedding. Isn't Denver a city in the state of Colorado?
I'm not American so I could be wrong anyone care to explain?

I just always took it as he was hammered drunk when he said it. Drunks are always spewing random things that aren't always correct

Ferrel in Blades of Glory calls denver "the city by the bay, John Denver".

Another funny cross-reference is in "The Office": Will Ferrell replies to Steve Carell, mis-referencing Colorado as the "sunshine state" (actually Florida is the sunshine state) and Carell erroneously references Texas (don't mess with Texas) by saying, "don't mess with Colorado" in the "Training Day" episode from Season 7.

Hey, knuckleheads
Colorado is the 6th sunniest state, and Florida the 8th, in terms of percentage of days of sunshine per year.
Cold and sun are not mutually exclusive.
It's not meant to be the opposite, just a mistake.

As I stated, I'm not American. I get all the humor in the movie, just not a joke that didn't sound sarcastic or get a laugh from the character the joke was told to!

Yes, Colorado is a state, Denver is the state capital of it and its largest city
