long ago (over 20 years) i saw on TV a movie (it looked like an 80s movie)about a detective with an apparent drinking problem, who gets hired to solve a case, but everytime he drank from a bottle, that he kept on his raincoat he suffered blackouts, the detective begins to think he might be the criminal, but by the end of the movie he discovers that the person who hired him has been applying some drug on his alcohol producing the amnesia.
I remember the detective wearing a fedora and long raincoat.
does it sound familiar ?
can someone tell me the name of that movie ?
