I immensely enjoyed this movie. It was heart warming to see a tough
crusty old fart like Einar moved from hard hearted-ness to love through
the providence of God. Though he lost a son, he gained a family. Morgan
Freeman was superb as usual. Becca Gardner was also excellent.
I wondered about Einar's Mercury pick-up truck. The pickup was
obviously a Ford F-150, but was branded on the sides and tailgate with
"Mercury".
Did Ford market a Mercury pickup truck in the western US at some point?
Interesting.

They are rare in the US but are down here. My grandpa had one when I was little down here in Arkansas. The m100 was simply a rebadged f100. About the only thing merc left on my grandpas was the cab and it finally rusted out like the rest.

couldn't he have bought the truck from canada or from someone that had bought the truck in canada.he seemed like a cheap guy. Besides, he wasn't that far from Canada.

regarding this being considered a goof. wasn't there a part in the movie where he was trying to fix the truck and muttered something about damn imports? so I took it as it was suppose to be what it was.

From the goofs page:
Film is set in Wyoming but the truck is a Mercury, which was sold in Canada, not the United States. In the US, it was sold as a Ford.
