Yes, I agree with you, they should have left it out. It needlessly and irreparably cheapens two characters without advancing the story.

why should we have seen it in detail. Yeah, it was important to the plot but we knew what they were doing so did we need to see more? I do agree that the scene was poor though. And seeing that this is a family film it would've been outta place though. Unlike Monster's Ball for example.

I agree, JohnMayne, this movie rocked, Redford & Freeman stole this movie, their bickering and their friendship was enough to love in it's self, but, I was kinda mad when they didn't show the J.Lo love scene. I was like, come on!. But, I understand why the director didn't show it. I still loved the movie, really great film, should've been an oscar contender, but, I guess they missed it. Was this movie nommed for Oscars, if so, I don't remember it, I think I remember them talking about Morgan Freeman and Robert Redford's performances and how Oscar-worthy they were.

I agree, the scene itself, was a bit odd. At first, one might think it was an attempt to get a more family friendly rating. That said, this film is Redford at his best, and one of Freeman's finest, a finely honed piece of work to add to his brilliant legacy. The pace, the direction, the performances by an outstanding cast makes this portrait of life, its promise as well as its harsh reality, a must see.

This scene was crucial to the movie, it showed how desperate jean needed protection and also how much she depended on the men in her life. At the end of this film she was able to make her own free choises and even when she was confronted with her own bear, she showed no fear.

Nope, it showed the character of Jean, played by J Lopez and her neediness and search for validation through a series of relationships after her husband died.
We didn't need to see the gratuitness of it, but did need to know that it took place.
One by one, we're all becoming shades. Better to pass boldly into that other world, in the full glory of some passion, than fade and wither dismally with age.

The scene didn't ruin the movie. What ruined the movie FOR YOU is the fact that you didn't understand why that scene was added to the film.

I'm glad they didn't show anything else, THAT would have ruined the movie. The directer was very careful to keep to the story and not add uneeded sex scenes "just because" J-Lo was in it.
