I totally enjoyed this movie and find delight in thinking about it long after having seen it. What has brought me here to comment is this: Excuse me, but didn't Bart the Bear die in the year 2000? This movie is tagged as being out in 2005 - so was it really more than 5 years in the making? Just curious!

Doug and Lynn Suess, owners and trainers on Bart the Bear lost Bart the 1st to cancer, but before he passed they got two more abandoned cubs, and male and a female and named the male after Bart out of respect of their beloved bear. So they now have Bart, Bump, and Tank, who was in Dr. Doolittle. The Suess Family not only raise these magnificent bears but they also operate a non-profit organization designed to increase the space available to wild grizzlies. I admire them, they found their passion and have acted upon it with great vigor.

You are correct that Bart the Bear did die in 2000. The bear in this movie is Bart the Bear the 2nd. There was a tv show called "Growing Up Grizzly" that followed the man who trained these two. The younger was named in honor of the original Bart after he passed away.
Also, if you do an IMDB search for "Bart the Bear" you will see this is the 2nd Bart.

Bart the Bear was born in the year 2000 so you might have been mistaken.
