I can't believe he didn't even get nominated for an Oscar.
He should have WON it for this film
It's a cute little film, but it's all Tom Hanks. That guy can do ANYTHING!!! I just love him.
And Stanley Tucci was very good also.
Another character performance that Hanks pulled off brilliantly, for which he should have won an Oscar, but for which he AGAIN wasn't even nominated, was his role as the "professor" in "The Ladykillers". He was superb in that one as well. Genius.

I think he overplays it a little, the character is way too goofy at the beginning when he's still not very good at communicating etc.

Yes he should have won but oscar didn't appreciate it. Just like what they did on Captain Phillips
