Anybody right now can do a "virgin" birth. Just use artificial insemination on a virgin.
Don't even need a virgin. You can't prove conclusively whether someone is a virgin or not. Virgin = never had sex. Hymen can remain intact after sex. Hymen can be torn without sex. Hymen can be reconstructed using surgery.
So really I cannot imagine how an intelligent high priestess came up with such a stupid idea.
Jesus isn't convincing in the bible because he was a virgin birth, he is convincing (to some people) because he can perform miracles and can resurrect. I suppose they were also going to do all that hocus pocus with the kids later.
Why create super intelligent messiahs too? I would think she would want super stupid messiahs so she could control them.

Keep in mind that it is the twins that would be the "prophets" of this religion. I assume that they would be even more "special" than Aurora, with more "powers" than she had. In fact I assume that the reason Aurora suddenly went from just being very smart/skilled/knowledgeable (from implanting by AI) to gaining what could only be described as (minor) "super powers" was because she was borrowing those powers from her the twins while they were still in her womb.
The priestesses original plan was to simply have a woman raised in one of her convents give birth to twins, then immediately die. The Priestess would fortuitously be present (having been called by god) for the birth. She would declare the twins miracles and prophets, and of course raise them herself. The "powers" the would exhibit over time, even if relatively minor, would prove her to be correct, cause her religion to be viewed as "legitimate", and lead to massively greater wealth and power for her. The mother giving virgin birth was just a side-benefit of the necessary process the doctor had to use anyway. The priestess would exploit it of course, but she never needed it to make the plan work.
Unfortunately for her, the priestesses plan was basically screwed up by the doctor that she had no choice but to use for the plan. She didn't need a special woman, just very special children. There was only one doctor in the world that could make those genetically designed children, and in order to get that doctor to help her she had to agree to also let him do his AI imprinting thing to the mother. However, as a result the mother was clearly special and exceptionally capable, and had the help of the doctor who viewed her as his child. These factors combined to allow her to escape the trap the priestess set up for her children.

I always assumed (both in the movie and in the biblical legend that it was parthenogenesis. If that were so, then Jesus would have only been able to have been born female. Parthenogenetic offspring are all female.
