Exactly. Independent IS detached. Does NOT go along with the crowd. So you got it!!! Lucky you. Hope you practice it.
P.S. Don't deal with Narnia fantasyor Scientology for that matter. Only reality. So barely know what it refers to. Sorry.
An independent mind is difficult to enslave.

It's already taken care of because independent just means detached. It's the easiest of all minds to control.
Scientologists love Narnia, there's plenty of closet space.

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for enough good men to do nothing.
That's what they're counting on. That's what they're counting on.
We're almost at the tipping point.

You also see the "contractor" in the school/polling station close to the end; he is walking off camera left down the corridor outside the room where Marco and Shaw are talking.
He is taking care of his investment

I think you are missing the point.
They where creating submissive soldiers, war heroes. The memories where implanted, if you watch it, you see a whole load of the soldiers watching a computer animation or cartoon of those memories.
Shaw was a submissive solder, they created a soldier who was a war hero, who could run for president, a president that they could control. A president who had sworn witnesses to what a glorious person he was.

But why would they implant these memories just to supress them? They showed Raymond firing at the American choppers but then made up the story that he'd actually saved his unit from enemy fire. Doesn't make sense the way I'm remembering it. I need to watch it again.

I thought that the civilian contractor Tokars delivered the knockout blow . . .
He was supposedly part of the Manchurian Global network but listed as a private contractor who was listed as missing after the infamous desert patrol incident. Not sure Raymond ever actually shot at the coptors - I tend to believe that all that was mental images dreamed up and implanted in the survivors' memories like the "speech like" responses they were forced to memorize and speak word for word to specific questions. Did you not see Marcos begin quoting word for word the answers cpl Melvin gave in response to the interviewer when he was watching the interview on TV?
Whatever doesn't kill me only makes me stronger. How strong are you?
