This movie opened in theaters in this country on Friday, August 20, 2004 and this Wednesday will have its tenth anniversary. I remember very well when it came out, I was here in Charlotte, NC and was homeless and living out of a storage place, but went to a lot of movies in theaters, and definitely wanted to see this one. So on its opening day I went to my main theater for the noon showing of it. I then just stayed in there and saw two other movies, and then saw Open Water again after that, at its 7:00 showing. And I really liked it, thought it was exciting and sad, and I'll admit I also loved the great nude scene in it. I then ended up going back to this theater and saw it twice more on Saturday night, September 4, at the 7:00 and 9:00 showings (though this was not planned, someone gave me some money when they saw me going through a theater trash can). At this time I had no access to home video so could not see it like that, but in February, 2006 I went into a Blockbuster Video store and saw a used copy of Open Water for under ten dollars and decided to buy it because I wanted to give it the distinction of being the first thing I ever brought on DVD. I never got to watch it, but just kept it in my storage unit, and then in December, 2006 moved to Miami and got a storage unit there where I kept it. I then moved back to Charlotte in spring, 2008 and did not get another storage unit, but kept my bags in a wooded area where I slept. Then in July, 2009 they were all stolen one day while I was staying somewhere else, and thus I lost the DVD. I then got an apartment and a TV/DVD in September, 2010, and in October, 2010 went to another Blockbuster and rented several movies out on DVD to watch, and Open Water was one of them. I saw it once and still liked it a lot, and in March 2013 joined Netflix, and plan to rent it out from there this coming week to watch it for its tenth anniversary.

Wow Hereminton, I'm glad things worked out ok for you, sounds like you had a tough time. It really makes me feel bad about moaning about stupid things when you were going through trash for food. It was nice to read that you still managed to make the most of a bad situation by enjoying going to the movies.
I hope life is good for you, and continues that way ?
