I know this is extremly dumb. But i always wondered, like, If i were an actress or whatever. And they asked me to make a movie like Jaws for example. I couldn't do it because even the thought of being in the water with a giant fake mechanical shark scares the hell out of me! How bout you guys? I heard, im guessing its a romour as i cant find anywhere to confirm this, but one of the actors in Jaws got hurt by the shark? Freak accident?

No, not silly or dumb. You wouldn't be the only one watching from the shore, or at least a nice safe looking boat! My fear of sharks, or even big fish, is so much that I won't ever go in the sea again.
This obviously means that I can't be asked to star in any shark movies. What a shame eh? hehe.
People say sharks hardly ever attack humans, rarely attack humans. But the problem is, when they do attack humans, the wound is usually quite severe. And I can just imagine the nightmares a shark attack victim would have, for the rest of their life. So no, no shark movie roles for me.
"Sharks are very rarely aggressive toward humans" Yes well, it only takes one time, and you will either be "hopping mad" or dead. What a terrible way to go it would be.
I love Open Water.
I also love Open Water 2, as stupid as those people are in it. I won't spoil it here though.

To answer question about Bruce:
During pre-production, director Steven Spielberg, accompanied by friends Martin Scorsese, George Lucas and John Milius, visited the effects shop where "Bruce" the shark was being constructed. Lucas stuck his head in the shark's mouth to see how it worked and, as a joke, Milius and Spielberg sneaked to the controls and made the jaw clamp shut on Lucas' head. Unfortunately, and rather prophetically, considering the later technical difficulties the production would suffer, the shark malfunctioned, and Lucas got stuck in the mouth of the shark. When Spielberg and Milius were finally able to free him, the three men ran out of the workshop, afraid they'd done major damage to the creature
It wasn't during any filming.

One of my favorite childhood memories is going on the studio tour at Universal (in California) at age eight. As the bus crossed the Red Sea, all of a sudden Bruce popped up right next to me. It scared the bejesus out of me, but I had the presence to snap a couple of pictures with my little kodak camera. The thing was only about five feet from me. I still have those shots, 34 years later.
The reality that we never got the implied "Moses Vs. Jaws" movie remains a sore point to this day.
That said, the OP's subject line is correct . . outside the context of a movie, it is very silly to be legit scared of a fake shark. I just don't get that. Scared of real shark = natural. Scared of fake shark = goofy. I guess we all see things through our own filters, so all I know is that at eight I was startled by but not really scared of a giant fake shark head emerging right next to me. I can't take any adult who's scared of fiberglass and latex seriously.

I have meddled with the primal forces of nature and I will atone.

i kno exactly what you mean, the fake shark at the JAWS ride in Orlando Universal Studios is scary as hell! If i were ever on that ride and accidentally fell off the boat, I would go crazy! Especially if I fell off during the part when the boat goes in that dark closed shed and then when the shark comes our all charred and burned at the end of the ride! i mean, everyone on the boat knows its fake, but all the adults still scream and get nervous at the sight of the mechanical shark lol

It spossible one of the actors got hurt in Jaws, but what i do know is that Crissie Watkins, the first victim, was injured from being yanked about in the water, but that was being done by cables, not Bruce

i know i would never do that, i have a massive fear of sharks, my heart beats uncontroably, whenever i see a photo of one.
i would certanly NOT be able to do a movie with a "fake" shark.
