John Goodman is just a man who is able to put up with Roseanne Barr/Pentland/Arnold/Thomas.
Of course I respect your opinion and you're entitled to express it, but that is an outrageous thing to say. Apparently, you've never seen Goodman in Barton Fink, Blood Simple or The Big Lebowski. The man is a wonderful, terrific actor.
As for Don Cheadle, I can only agree with you to a certain extent. He has done some great acting but whenever the guy tries to pull off a british accent (the london one especially), I have to laugh out loud because it's so painfully bad! Not that underrated in my book but that's just my 2 cents worth

Glad to see that someone else agrees that Sean Penn deserves respect for I Am Sam. You're right. Kevin Spacey did win an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. I always forget about the Supporting Actor. Touch. As for John Goodman, he showed how great of an actor he is by actually being able to stand next to that loudmouth (beep) Roseanne Barr. I still disagree that he is one of the most underrated actors; you can't prove that in comedies or sci-fi films. If you're looking for underrated actors, check out Don Cheadle, but otherwise, John Goodman is just a man who is able to put up with Roseanne Barr/Pentland/Arnold/Thomas.

Yeah well, I wrote those were just a few off the top of my head didn't I. But sure, I stick to all of them. Of course I forgot a bunch, Philip Seymour Hoffman for example. After all, it was his portrayal of Truman Capote that made me come to this message board in the first place or Sean Penn, who deserves the uttermost respect for his performances in 'I am Sam' and 'Mystic River'.
By the way, I think that Kevin Spacey won an Oscar for both, The Ususal Suspects AND American Beauty and some of the actors I mentioned got at least a nod for one (Osment, DiCaprio). But seriously, it doesn't really amount to anything if you got an Academy Adward/Golden Globe or not. So many great performances and actors are disregarded each and every year, John Goodman being one of them. Come to think of it, he's undoubtably one the most underrated actors in business.

First of all, I never thought I'd see John Goodman on a list of greatest acting performances. I respect you for saying that. Also, I can't believe you put two child actors on this list, even though they were good. I also want to let you know that only two of the actors actually won oscars for the films you provided. Kevin Spacey - American Beauty, Tom Hanks - Forrest Gump.

I agree wholeheartedly on your choice of Olivier's "Dr. Szell" in Marathon Man. Definitely one of the creepiest, most chilling screen villains of all time. ("Is it safe?")
Hoffman was also top-notch.
