He was portrayed as a selfish, self absorbed diva.
The scene that really made me hate him was the scene when he went to the mockingbird premier. He was saying oh they are torturing me, whilst ignoring his friend's big moment.
Ultimately he seemed like a massive beep

I'm glad the film didn't try and airbrush away his faults.
Me too - I was impressed with the script that didn't pull it's punches about Capote's character, and with Hoffman, for doing such an honest immersion of himself into this very flawed but talented man.

He was portrayed as a selfish, self absorbed diva.
It's likely that his friends like Harper Lee, seemed to recognize this flawed aspect of his personality and still accepted him as he was. His narcissism and propensity for manipulation and self-promotion, whilst repelling in some ways, also undoubtedly contributed to his writing talent and style. I'm glad the film didn't try and airbrush away his faults.

Agreed. And the fact he was intentionally lying to Perry, someone who considered him a friend and his only hope, really made me not like him. Indeed he was self-absorbed.
