With the exception of the actress who played Elisabeth Short, everyone else in this film was completely miscast. Actors who are perfectly decent performers generally in other films but not in this. It's unfortunate that this film was released around the same time as Hollywoodland which was considerably better. I just thought the story of The Black Dahlia could have been taken into a different direction.

I really love this film (to each his/her own), but your comment about miscasting really only applies to Hilary Swank IMO. Though Mia Kirshner gave the best performance in the film (Rose McGowan was good, too, and I always love Josh), the odd truth is that Elizabeth Short The Black Dahlia actually looked quite a bit like Hilary Swank. There are very few photos of her, but when she smiled the resemblance shows.
