A piece of art that claims to be more important than it actually is would be pretentious. I haven't seen Sin City yet, but my assumption is that it's just a regular comic book movie with a unique visual style to make it seem more interesting or important than it actually is. Hence pretentious. I could be wrong about the movie itself being pretentious, it could be a really good film. But I'm not wrong about the definition of pretentious.

It's amazing how idiotic you are.

The word "pretentious" isn't used properly here and means nothing.
It literally means to "pretend" at something you aren't.
So, an uneducated guy using "big words" that he really doesn't understand and it's clear that he doesn't indicates he's pretentious. He's pretending to be educated.
I don't believe the filmmakers are pretending to do anything with this film.

The theatrical version is better if you want to watch it all in one sitting. The pacing's a little better.
The extended cut is good if you want to watch some of the stories individually.
So many stories, so little time.

I have a priority list of films that's already 21 movies deep.

I completely forgot about this post. Didn't even end up watching the movie. Some day, maybe.

If you buy the extended cut, you have the theatrical version as well. I have it. It's worth it. Each story is an individual short movie, with added scenes.

I've only seen the theatrical version. Pretentious isn't a word I'd use to describe the indescribable! It needs to be seen - to be experienced.
