Why just 8.1. It is far better than Kill Bill Vol 1 as a Tarantino movie. It deserved 8.2 or 8.3. The same year V for Vendetta and Batman Begins, 2 similar movies got a higher rating. Although Sin City is not just like a dark movie with dark protagonist but it is also a pulp fiction with 1900's noir detective theme with a touch of amzing directing and surreality.
Other underrated movies on IMDb The Bourne ultimatum, District-9 and Stalker (1979).

I'm sorry, but I have to laugh at you complaining that you feel a movie to be one or two percent better than its IMDB rating reflects. That's pretty dadgum specific. How do you decide which movies deserve, say, 8.2 and which ones deserve 8.4?
This would mean that the vast majority of movies you've seen would effectively be overrated or underrated as compared to your own opinion . . excluding only those that happen to exactly match your theoretical score. And scores change all the time. Kinda becomes meaningless, doesn't it?

Yeah. Well. That doesnt really matter.
IMDB ratings had been very high in relevance about fifteen years ago, but nowadays they really dont say much at all.
Ratings I would give:
Sin City - 10/10 - Basically absolute perfection of a movie, definitely in my top 10 of movies of all time.
Bourne Triology - 10/10 - The best action movies I know of, even beating T2 and Die Hard.
Batman Begins - 10/10 - Not as awesome, but still a 10/10.
Pulp Fiction - 6/10 - I really dont understand what other people see in this. Very busy with form over content. Brutal, which is supposed to be funny but really isnt.
Kill Bill Vol 1 - 1/10 - Busy with form over content and the story is completely boring.
V for Vendetta - 0/10 - A completely empty movie that has absolutely nothing to say. Freedom is good, hu ? Whow, amazing ! Who would have
thought
.
I dont know District-9 and Stalker.
