This is an amazing movie and if the movies of the hellboy franchise turn out like hellboy2 , it ll easily be better than any of the pussyfied superhero movies like captain america, the thor , the green lantern, iron man 2..
The characters in this movie were easily more interesting the any of the high budget superhero crap we had to endure in the past two years.
Dont judge me based on your ignorance

100% agree. As far as fun comic book movies go, you'ure not going to get better than Hellboy 1, 2, Blade and Blade 2.

The problem is that I see the MCU films as "going through the motions" you can get a well written one with a good plot, characters etc. (eg. ORIGINAL Iron Man) and they also happen to come with little plot to no plot at all and feels a lot like a well acted Star Wars prequel (eg. Iron Man 2).

I have to agree with you there. Once the superhero movies started to slump in story and become more reliant on visual effects, it didn't bother me. Lately however I am starting to think otherwise.
When I rewatched this it was everything I was looking for in a superhero movie. Interesting characters, threatening villains, good story, good drama and a lot of good humour.
You have your opinions I have mine.

Yeah, Hellboy gets left off every fanboy's superhero lists. I don't get it. They don't even acknowledge them. They barely give props to the Blade films.
That could be becuase he's not your standard definition of a "superhero".
My ignore list is quite large.

It's different also because it wasn't made solely for money, unlike Green Lantern and all that crap. Del Toro has a real passion going at work here, and that shows.. Alone the visual improvment between first and second ep is proof he thought about his previous job and how he could make it even better, instead of going for the generic formula "if it worked, no need to change anything fundamental" (Transformers etc etc)

Actually no. The hellboy movies(and if you didn't see the first movie you will understand why the childhood scene is in there after you see the first one)is geared to adults. The superhero movies are geared to a certain audience and remain cartoons even when portrayed by actors.
So I think your reluctance to watch the comic book movies will be borne out.
Very few comic book movies like hellboy are adult fare. I also like the detail in the giant machinery and the look of places like the troll market. The cematery sequence in the first movie is great as well.
However the movie is for adults, it has adult behavior in a fantasy setting.
That's why it is different and to me better than the others.

I'm not a fan of 'comic book' to film stuff usually (except for Blade) but decided to watch this just to see what it was like (rainy day syndrome) and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I was initially put off at the beginning with childhood stuff but when it moved on I was astonished (and I mean that) at just how good this film is.
Looks like I'm going to have to start giving the 'comic' transfers more of a chance!
Thanks Hellboy!
Don't worry ever, because this is just a ride. It's just a ride. Bill Hicks.
