I have seen moron after moron state something like "Man of Steel is the best superhero movie" or calling the Nolan Dark Knight trilogies the best superhero films.
IMO Hellboy is the greatest superhero movie of all time, both of them actually.
Even though certain things strayed from source material, I have never been one to switch this movie to something else.
This is simply based on the character and environment that the BPRD live in, not only that but Ron Perlman IS Hellboy.
Attention:
you have just been hadoukened

I wonder if you see anything ironic in calling people with opinions "morons" before going ahead and giving us the benefit of your opinions?

Calling it "the best" is bold but I definitely think it deserves to be part of the discussion. It's different than the rest of the "comic book" movies in the sense that you have a monster fighting monsters. And ironically has more humanity than most.
I think I like the 2nd one better because it just seemed like everything was on a more epic scale - the visuals, the humor, the story, everything.
I know that the first film was closer to Mike Mignola's comics - both visually and in tone. And I know that's why a lot of people like the first film better. But to me, del Toro completely made this version of Hellboy his own and del Toro brought a lot of enthusiasm and crazy, awesome ideas and visuals. In other words, del Toro played to his strengths as a filmmaker and the result, I think, is a truly fantastic film.
