we saw oblivion on this last night when we in chicago for debate, it was ok, we found the movie funny, (to laugh at) but not the part with svengoolie really. Is he normally funnier?

Rich Koz was much funnier when he was "Son of Svengoolie".
Like most comedians, he lost steam over the years. But the show is still watchable at least.

It's really too bad that they moved it from around noon to around 9PM. I seldom watch it now.
But I do agree that he seemed funnier back in the 1970's-1980's. I still remember when he was on WFLD. I even met him and Doug at some event at a clock shop back in the 1970's. If I recall you could have even bought artwork that he did at the event.
But being that Mystery Science Theater 3000 isn't on here anymore, it's the funniest thing in the same vane as that still on TV here. I still enjoy it.

I don't find the show laugh-out-loud funny, but it's fun in a campy sort of way. Koz obviously takes his inspiration from TV horror hosts of the fifties; he's like a non-menacing version of the Crypt Keeper. Vampira, Elvira, The Ghoul, and legions of other horror hosts tend to crack jokes that are more likely to elicit groans than laughs, but that's part of the charm of the whole endeavor.
Plus as a Chicago native it's always nice to have these local things.

near as i can tell, this seems to be a little bit backwards. sven got the rights to the universal flicks in late 2006, and then in mid 2007, some stations in california tried sven out.
of course, maybe what i've heard is incorrect.

I have the first t-shirt that he did when he came back to WCIU. I like the one with the giant chicken much more and will be ordering that one. Hell, I actually go back to the days of "Screaming Yellow Theater" and the original Svengoolie (Jerry G. Bishop). Watched the Son of Svengoolie (had a cassette with some of his song parodies, can't find it now
) and loved it. Now Svengoolie is showing the classic Universal movies (he's working his way through the
FRANKENSTEIN
films now) and I find him hilarious. Met him twice: once at a store called House of Monsters (don't know if it's still in business) and again at Haunted Trails.

Hm. I'm only 19 but I've been into his show for as long as I can remember. Anyone ever meet him?
Like you, I've watched Svengoolie my entire life. I can remember the low budget creature features and the corny songs. What a blast! Just last night Svengoolie did another hilarious song with a r&b groove to it. It was really funny. I also enjoyed the rubber chickens and talking hands. As a kid, I had no idea what "Berwyn" was. It was not until I became a teenager that I discovered it was a town. By the way, every October I wear my Svengoolie "glow-n-the dark T-shirt. So many people comment about it and ask whether the show still airs. Thanks to WCIU 26 and MeTv 23 for keeping Svengoolie on the airwaves.

I moved away from the Chicagoland area in July of 1997 and I really missed home (Lou Malnatis and Sven). So a year in a half ago we moved back and I was in bliss as far as the TV viewing went. I got a DVD recorder and I taped as many Svens off WCIU and METV as I could. A few weeks ago, I moved away from the Chicagoland area and I am sooooo sad. I really miss Svengoolie. Now he is showing all the classics from Universal, like the Mummy, Dracula and The Creature From The Black Lagoon. The only Sven I get is when I go to the WCIU website and YouTube for some classic Sven clips. I am so bummed! I also met Sven and Doug along time ago when they went to International Time in the Woodfield mall. I had a great time and Sven was really cool (I was a blathering 9 year old at the time) and Doug was super nice when we asked him for his autograph.

I love Svengoolie, that show is the only one I watch religiously, haven't missed an episode for as long as I can remember. A lot of the jokes have a different effect on people from the Chicagoland area, but I'm sure anyone can appreciate them. His comments during 'From Beyond' had me gasping for breath, couldn't stop laughing throughout the movie (although it is pretty hard not to laugh through that movie to begin with). I finally got the chance to meet Svengoolie at flashbackweekend in July, and he was just as great in person.

Sven was great back in the 1980's. Even though low budget, it was obviously much higher budgeted than the 1993-Present version of the show. But Koz isn't 25 anymore, and after two heart attacks at a young age, it is good to see an old friend on TV every saturday night. To compare Koz in 2006 to Koz in 1980 would be an injustice. He has aged, but he still has the same sense of humor.
I'll always be a fan, no matter what. Sven forever!!!!!

And yes, he's usually funnier. There has been kind of a downward shift in the quality of the show recently. It was a lot funnier back when it started (I don't remember the 'Son of' days). Maybe it's just the quality of the movies. But I would say even now, yes, he's usually funnier.
