Did they really betray Effie while she was with Curtis or did Effie accuse an innocent Deana and the two didn't get together until after Effie was out of the picture? I never got that part.

They officially got together Afterwards but Curtis was always into her. I used to have the novelization based on the movie. It went deeper into the story than the finished film does.
