Just finished watching the series on Netflix and I wondered who people's favourite pairings were from the core 5?
Personally, I really liked episodes where Barney and Lily were put together, I thought their friendship was pretty solid (although I have only seen each episode once at this point so there might be stuff I'm forgetting).
Robin and Marshall were another favourite, and I wish we had seen more of them paired off just the two of them without a third party.

I really like it when we see Ted, Marshall and Barney together. I don't know, the chemistry of the trio feels so natural. I really like that scene in the episode "Woooo!" in which at the end they're all at the Giddy Ups bar and we see the three of them having drinks at the end.

Robin and Marshall, Barney and Marshall, Barney and Ted.
Probably my favourite episode if Three Days of Snow which features two of these pairings prominently.

Barney, Ted
The fact that they both boned Robin created a tense atmosphere amongst the two. You never knew who was going to say what. I felt like a big moment was when Barney said 'well, Robin isn't marrying you, she's marrying me" when Ted warned her about doing the right thing with Robin with the wedding. After all this, it was funny to see Barney's true colors come out. Barney knew it was torture for Ted that Robin was not only marrying someone else but it was Barney his own "best friend". If that were me as Ted and Barney copped and attitude and rubbed that in my face I'd just say..you know, i don't have to do this at all.
