I was just rewatching some episodes That's when I noticed the subtle countdown in the episode from 50 to 1 with everyday objects like ketchup bottle, clock etc.1 leading to (spoiler alert) Marshall s dad's death..
Totally blown away by its briilant nature.I wonder how I dint notice it before
Did people notice it the first time they saw?

I noticed the first time I watched between 48-47. But I had no idea that the 1 was going to be the death of his father.

First time I ever hear about it. That's so cool. Next time I'll see it I'll pay attention to it.

I remember watching this when it aired and I only caught onto the countdown at around 40. Awesome episode, handled really well? Still really hits a nerve.

I just saw this episode for the second time too. I caught it when Marshall was calling his dad and they put a lot of emphasis on a beer can with a number. In my opinion so cleverly done. Really one of the best episodes from the series.

That episode really caught me by surprise when I first saw it and it is really sad. I thought it was nice to see someone on tv with a close relationship to their family like Marshall's. Then for him to lose his dad just broke my heart.

It was certainly one of the saddest moments in the seriesAlso since Marshall is the only one among the group having a very strong and loving relationship with his fatherIt was a heartbreaking scene

I had no idea about the countdown until I saw it mentioned on IMDB. That episode is easily one of the most emotional for me and was really the time in the series when I saw the characters as actual people instead of actors. Not that there hadn't been other times the actors did a great job portraying emotional situations, but given my relationship with my own dad, just made this scene that much more.
