I personally thought this crazy kaleidoscopic film was wonderful, but many people seem to think the opposite. However I do think this film will become a cult classic much like the book in the not to distant future.

I think some people just like to be different and sometimes that means they jump on films that are badly criticised, some sort of non conformity perhaps. However the films that get trashed usually are pretty trash over all, there is notjing deserving of classic whatsoever about this film, nothing new, groundbreaking, thought provoking, no new film tech. Therefore a cult movie (of these types of people) but classic suggests no grasp of what actually makes a classic

It's definitely a cult classic. From an Art perspective, it's well colored. But the script lacks credibility and substance. Mrs. Jump should've given more respect to the book when writing the screenplay.
It's not a movie for everyone and should've been shown in selected cinemas or only at independent film festivals.
It's disturbingly empty development in the scenes and cutouts, besides the well done acting from the characters.
I would love to see a remake of this.
And animals "were" hurt during filming

new cult classic
That is true. I loved the movie, and watched more 2 times. It is really funny and stylish. I think that people who are 13-15 yo didn't love it, and they just wanted to see Tom Hiddleston, they didn't want to receive work of all other people who made this movie.

Agreed. It hits you over the head too much with it's point without having any sort of engaging narrative to it after the beginning. It felt like the second half was just a series of montages about things falling apart.

For me, the story gets boring after first hour. It could become a cult film, but it's a bit one-dimensional, so a minor one if so.

Most of the typical movies considered cult classics tend to go down easy on repeated viewings. This is a bit tedious to get through one viewing.

ive never known a tower block hold middle class people upstairs and lower class downstairs, that's just ridiculous. The film however was.. dull

Yep. The rigid British class system caved in on itself and everyone was reduced to animals. No one won, and Ballard never made a point to show which viewpoint in his narrative was correct- he just
observed
them as Laing does in the film by the end. Like an impartial case study on humanity.

It was much more clear in the book. The breakdown went along class lines, pitting the residents on the lower floors against the ones on the upper ones.

I wanted to like this movie but I didn't get it and I watched it twice!
What made
the residents implode? Was it because of competition over who had the better party?
Or because of the utilities being disconnected? (I missed how that took place)
Can someone share their understanding of the movie for my questions please + thank you?!
