There are plenty of people in real life who would defend their pet instead of running away; that scene was not unrealistic. The "it's just a dog" mentality is why so many pets get abandoned by their owners and end up in rescue shelters.
The dog wasn't able to run away as he was being held by the collar. Also, the boyfriend wasn't putting his girlfriend in danger: she went with him willingly into the tunnel and she was backing him up. Once they were confronted by the thugs it might've been too late to run away. There's no guarantee the thugs would've let them just run away like that; they clearly wanted money and their blood was up.

After just watching this movie, I actually pictured there would be some thread about this, and sadly I was correct.
A lot of gutless reactions about just leaving your dog there and running because he's "just an animal". SMDH. Any dogs I owned I looked upon as a member of my family, and I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I just ran and left him/her there. It says a lot about your character and compassion, or lack thereof, if you could've done the same thing in the same situation so easily.
Oh, and to the poster who tried to justify saying I would've put my wife/fianc in trouble by doing so; I would've told her to run and call the police while I got the dog back. I carry a switchblade on me almost all the time for protection, and would in that instance as well, so at the very least I would've held them at bay until help arrived, or went down swinging. But I wouldn't have just left my dog there to die and ran like a pansy like some of you here shamelessly would.

They had no reason to think they were going to die. All they knew was some guys had their dog and were beep with them. If someone played keep-away with your hat, would you run in fear for your life?

I think the whole point of a message board is to express what YOU think about it.
Otherwise, there should be no message board. We should just take the movie as is and shut up.
Obviously, people think differently, but hey, then why not resort to simple logic?
Dog can outrun bad guys. We may not be able to outrun bad guys. Therefore, we are in more danger than dog.

I have young kids. I don't see it as being the same at all. Neither does the LAW, by the way.
But that aside, again, the dog was in no danger. THEY were. The thugs had no chance of catching the dog if it chose to simply run away.

like i said, some people see their pets as family. children even. it would be like someone else living their 2 year old and running. it didn't seem right to them.

Yeah, that's big of you.
Is your dog worth your wife dying too?
If you are by yourself, then fine. If you want to die for a dog, then go to it. That's called natural selection. But don't sacrifice the person with you too.
The dog can outrun the thugs if it wants. She can't.

I think the dog was an intended "prop" used by the perps to mug the unsuspecting owners. Meaning they knew someone was probably going to come looking for him. And either way, I too would have done the same thing since my dog is worth dying for to me.
