There are three versions of the movie. The theatrical cut, unrated, and the directors cut. I'm pretty sure he died in the theatrical cut.

. His death at the end of 4 was entirely meaningless. A beep ending to a beep movie.

Originally, Amanda kills Matthews by stabbing him in the neck. Her near death experience with him is what caused her to turn into a serial killer.
I wish they had stuck to this instead of using Matthews as a sequel bait to give a lame death in Part IV.

Yeah, I did. I see now. It was pretty tragic.

She was just fantasizing about Will Friedle's character from Boy Meets World.

Once again, I find coincidence in my life, but I was watching Aliens last night with the audio commentary, and my God, that scene where the Aliens break into the room and Hudson is trying to fight them off, I turned the commentary off to have a look at that scene again.
It's so well acted by him, Bill Paxton was it ? The thing about Hudson, which people sometimes don't realise, is that he represents the cockyness of many soldiers you have in situations like vietnam, he thinks they're going to kick ass because of their gear and how awesome their gear is, but in the commentary, James Cameron pointed out "The Marines are going against a technologicly inferior enemy which they don't know how to fight, and is more determined than them." It's such a real life scenario, which is what I like about the film, it feels so real despite being science fiction.
This belongs on the Aliens board, but it's relevant enough if we're talking about it.

Yeah, Jigsaw said to her she was wrong because her victims were nothing more than, er, victims. Were as with Jigsaw's games it was so much more than that. Eric Mathews by the way, he hates Amanda and after his attack on her (where's her injuries after that ? She's completely healed ?! From that beating ?!!) you can see why she is upset "He was the same hateful man as when he arrested me."
But to be honest, she was no better for having him locked in a cell, but she didn't learn anything from it ofcourse, she just said "Oh Jigsaw, your games aren't working on these people".
And Hudson from Aliens ? You don't say ?! XD

^^True but at the same time, she didn't allow him to see his son. The poor guy was crying out for his son for who knows how long. I loved their fight in the tunnel though, that was awesome. "You're not Jigsaw, b!tch." Best line in the movie, for me that and when Glover's character, Tapp yells to Zep: "I'm gonna kill ya, you sick a$$hole!" those are some of my favorite quotes from the SAW movies haha!

And judging by her reaction, she was worried when Eric got out, he wasn't supposed to, and then he smashed a pipe in her face when she went to turn a corner.
I know amanda is a bitch for locking him up, but what he did to her I thought he took it too far and was just brutal to her, to the point that it was , I dunno, distasteful ?
But I'm not saying that made the scene bad, it proved the point amanda was making about him not changing and still being the same man who convicted her.

Well, he was her first test subject and an inexperienced Amanda wasn't expecting him to escape in record time.
