There seems to be a notion that American are afraid of sex. Scared out of their witts if they see a male/female genital!
This is of course a lowly tactic in reverse psychology to make some people just want to to challenge that notion. As if
Eurpoean films show more sex so they can compete with the better quality american films. It's not because they're "cultured" or "chic" or "artiste". Most european films are amateurish crab. This in no way an insult to the Eurpoean people, just as saying a Chevy is crab compared to a Ferrari would've been an insult to the American people.
The fact is Hollywood had mastered the art(or the business) of film making. Which is essentially a storytelling. And just as most of us need not be "vulgar" in telling a story, why should a film? I think I'd be insulted if you think I'm not smart enough to understand something as simple as sex unless you show me.
If your best memory about a film was the sex scenes and the nudity, which was a small part of the film(unless it was a porno!) then you have discredit the rest of the work as being forgettable. Probably, the highest insult to artists.
Conversely, if it wasn't the sex and nudity that you remember the most, do you think if that film didn't show any sex or nudity(if it had it) you wouldn't have remember the other part?
Sex sells. From beer to new vehicles, and anything in between. Americans are not afraid of sex, they just don't NEED to show more of it like Europeans do.
Again, I'm talking about filmmakers and not the general public.
A genius amongst morons is just another moron.

I don't mind seeing sex in films as long as force or violence isn't involved. I could never watch something like Irreversible.
And it helps if the sex is between interesting characters and doesn't have the 'feel' of "the obligatory sex scene." Once in a while, a sex scene seems so intimate that I feel as if I shouldn't be there (I'm thinking of the sex scene between Jon Voight and Jane Fonda in "Coming Home." I guess that is a compliment to the actors).
"Joey, have you ever been in a Turkish prison?"

Well said. I do think it's important that people are comfortable with the human form in general, not just their own. Mentioning menstrual blood, lots of the "period horror stories" one tends to hear wouldn't have been nearly as bad if it weren't the unnecessary shame and embarrassment that's attached to the whole process.
What if you decide to pursue a career in healthcare, for example? You need to be as unflappable as possible when it comes to seeing patients in various states of undress and illness, otherwise you end up amplifying their discomfort. The culture we're living in now makes it very hard for students to start their training with that healthy attitude already in place.

i get the notion from the fact that we still have draconian laws on the books and keep passing new ones. that dildo ban i mentioned is fairly recent.
i say "pissing on a tree" and you jump straight to "Sh***ing on a train seat." my spider-sense detects a straw man.
i'm against dress codes in general, though i concede there are places where a certain degree of formality is appropriate. Most of them involve obscene amounts of money or mortal danger. there are also plenty of places where a bikini top and Daisy Duke shorts would be fine. It's not hard to understand at all; i just think it's silly and causes more contention than it solves or prevents.
why for the love of Progressive's Flo would one shave any part of their body in the park? i don't care about your pubes; there's worse stuff in the grass by default, but enjoy your razor burn. right after a hot shower would be so much better for your skin.

Where do you get the notion that the majority are ashamed of sex. What's shameful about it?
Please don't confuse shame with private. Your social security number or your salary are some of the things that are private and not discussed in public. Is it because they shame you?
The sex peddlers use reverse psychology methods to force-sell their wares. If you're not hip to that, then your potential of being a John is very high!!
And sex(in any form) in the privacy of your home is NOT illegal, in any state, or anywhere in the world for that matter.
Also, different places have different dress code. How's that hard to understand?
You can't wear a bikini in the office, or show your nipples. So what makes the office any different than any public place(e.g a TV, which is essentially a public theatre in your living room)?
Maybe some people prefer to take a beep on a bus/train's seat, or take their clothes off and masturbate in a restaurant, or shave their partner's pubes in the park, should we forbid these natural human acts? I mean, they are not hurting anyone. It'd be uncivilized and very prudish of us to outlaw some basic human acts!!!!
Please stop the all the stupidity, and call things as they are. You want to have sex in public, say so. You want to watch other people having sex, say so.
Say so and do so, in the privacy of your own home. Public places/outlets are not yours to control what goes in them.
And finally, if you don't like the rules of a particular country/state/town, move out. No point of living miserably, unable to do what you like. Life is short, man.
A genius amongst morons is just another moron.

AN American may be fine with nudity and have a healthy, sane view on ****ing, but either we are a minority or an extremely meek majority. The vast majority of hte populace, however, subscribes to the notion that sex(and bodily functions in general) is somehow something to be ashamed of. You do it only in the privacy of your home, you don't discuss your habits publicly, especially your solo habits. In a sane world menstrual blood would carry no more stigma than tears or boogers. Yet it does, and public policy reflects this. In most states a woman cannot legally go about in a public setting with her nipples exposed. Urinating on a tree can earn you a place on the Sex Offenders list. Oral and anal sex are technically illegal in most places as well under anti-sodomie laws. My own home state of Alabama bans the sale of sex toys. Sex toys! Of all the things to worry about! There are people sleeping under highway overpasses, but let's not fund more shelters or low-rent housing, no no, let's focus on stopping the "sinners."

How is sex in movies fake? And what's the difference between porn and mainstream(R, NC-17) sexual acts? Please explain so I can see your point.
Also, I'm not promoting violence or murder, or even think that it is more important to cover your genitals than to kill a human being.
Real killing(murder) is the worst crime; bar none, that a human being commits. Telling a story(i.e movie) about a murder is not the same thing, not by a long, long shot. I'm not sure how anyone can't see the difference.
Taking your clothes off in public and "acting" sexual acts with a stranger; and getting paid for it, is NOT that much different than what happens in a brothel.

sex in movies is fake. Brothels are nonsimulated sex experience. the brothel argument doesn;t hold up people in mainstream hollywood films don't have real sex. Most don;t even take their pants off. Sex with prostitutes is real. It sounds like you need to figure out the difference between pornography and mainstream film. I'll paraphrase from your earlier post about violence. It isn't real. Movies are made to stimulate us either emotionally or physically and what stimulates us more than sex and violence?
And your arguments are so backwards sex may be private but murder is unnatural. We are made to procreate not hurt each other. Animals don't murder in cold blood humans do. We defy nature every time we shoot someone in a robbery or gut them because the voices told me to. And I do agree sex is private but if you are paying to watch a film about romantic adult relationships, or teenagers coming of ag e sex is a valid part of it and to ignore it is irresponsible . If you are uncomfortable with sex pay attention to the ratings and avoid it.
And our responsibility to violence is of greater importance than worrying about parts we all have. Ive known too many people who can stare unfazed at an al queda beheading video and that scares me when the pain and suffering of a human being can't even raise an eyebrow.and this is coming from a hardcore horror fan who wallows in the darker corners of filmmaking.

Please consider this seriously.
In a brothel, the prostitute and the john are both consenting adults, and they are engaged in the same "natural" and "love-representing" act that any other human being on the planet engage in.
Now, do you mind if that brothel was right across from your house? Also, they decided to have glass walls for all to see.
Of course, you can look the other way and also tell your children to look the other way as well. But then you're faced with a curious question from your child: "Why I can't look? It's only natural"
Oh, and your wife decided to earn few dollars for the holidays, so she goes across the street. She's only doing something natural, and she's only acting it's not real sex!
And why should sex be between consenting adults only? why not send your 12 year old daughter there? Really, why not? She's only doing something very human and natural. Why she needs to be older to do something she can do now? Please answer me that.
Sex is not bad, it's not evil, it's not unnatural, it's not against God, it doesn't terrify religious people. It's actually very, very pleasurable.
It is however, PRIVATE. Humans have agreed on that since the begining of time. Perhaps it was a way to reassure ourselves that we are different than other animals.
Animals who would, sometimes, resort to violence to have sex. Mostly because sex(the act) and sexual organs are not concealed, therefore exciting all kinds of hormones in others who watch, and wants a "pieace" of that!!
So, please think very seriously about the advantages and disadvantages of having sex being peddeled on TV/Film. And don't think of yourself only, but think of your extended human family.
A genius amongst morons is just another moron.

the s&g reference was because its really the biggest section on sex and its what people reference when talking about God's views on sex. The bible if ever filmed in totality would be a shocking, violent piece of torture porn; its a brutal book. the sad reality is that sex has been so demonized by the religious right in this country that it's shocking we have a population at all.
Art is open to interpretation what I consider art others call crap and vice versa. But sex is arguably why we are here on earth and is a far more natural expression of humanity than cutting a persons head off(though sadly an alien streaming through the news might think otherwise.) Also sex is representative of love something we need more of in this world less hate more mate.
Really though, a consenting adult signing onto a film knowing they have to strip down and (pardon the expression)dry hump a stranger are making a conscious decision to do so hardly a form of slavery.
I appreciate the discourse my friend it was polite and well thought out may not agree with it but your respectful tone is appreciated. too often know-it-all jerks respond sitting on their pedestals flinging vitriol and and excrement just to boost their sagging egos.

I'm not sure about the Sodom & Gomorrah reference, I don't think the Bible was trying to sell sex!
Anyways, the point is very simple here. Violence in films or video gamaes are not real, but the nakedness and sexual activities between strangers(i.e the actors) are real.
A 5 year old knows that people in the movie didn't just die or lose a limb for real. So please don't say "violence is more than ok" It's not REAL.
It's just an old argument started by the sex peddlers. And unfortunately it made vilonce(the one on film) synanomous with sex.
I don't understand why people can't see it. It's not OK to get naked in front of others(through a camera or otherwise)or perfom any kind of sexual activities publicly. It degrades and humiliate the performer, it's slavery in the most cunning form. And, as a society we need to prtect the weak.
Otherwise, what good are we?

It all comes down to the political ties of the religious right in this country.
Nonsense. Although you may be right that some competing filmmakers use sex to sell their movies, there's no question that Americans as a culture have an unreasonable fear of sex in its depiction, the act itself, and even in talking about it.

Yes porn is legal and has been since it existed also just so you know porn is in paintings and drawings as far back as the egyptians maybe you should pull your head out of the B.C's and join us in the modern age grand ma.
In what country are you forced to provide housing for anyone other then your children and possibly your wife/husband?????
OR better yet in what free country is adultery against the law????
Id say incest is pretty much illegal in every advanced country.
Please pick up a dictionary and look up the words porn and prostitution they are not one and the same ones free speech the other involves paying someone TO HAVE SEX WITH YOU i'm pretty sure the people who make and watch porn aren't paying anyone to have sex with them are they not????
If you hate my freedom of speech and expression so much and which to live in the B.C's then go live in Iran where they rule from religion the rest of us will continue to live and be happy in america where THERE'S A SEPARATION BETWEEN CHURCH AND STATE meaning YOU CAN'T MAKE RELIGIOUS LAW if you don't like that then move to Iran where i suspect you'll be much happier.
So everyone should be forced to live by your morals and standards???? even if they think differently??? you actually think you have any right to tell anyone else how to live there lives???? if so you're insane and im done you go going the west boro baptist church i think you'd fit in there.

Porn is legal?
Don't answer that.
It's not illegal to marry your cousin in some countries. It's not illegal to throw your parents/elders out of your house/your care in some countries. It's not illegal to have sex outside of marriage(adultrey) in many countries. And the list is long
Just because a locality decided to legalize porn or the free display of sex on TV/film does change what they are(PROSTITUTION). You can live in 4013 A.D and keep the same human values and morals that good moral people had back in 4013 B.C
And yes, sex is a beautiful thing(probably the best thing!) but it's a private matter. Done in privacy, not because it's shameful but rather because it's meant to be exclusive.
If you didn't know that, I pitty you. I truly do.

No it's not you *ucking moron prostitution is the act of paying for sex not just for taking there cloths off other wise porn would be illegal so would strip clubs not only that using your logic buying someone dinner and hoping for sex like most people call a DATE would be illegal as well please learn the difference so you don't look stupid.
So we all have to act like children and imagine that couples in movies don't ever have sex because you can't act like an adult and realize that sex is a beautiful thing???? sounds like your the one with the problem maybe you should try stepping into 2013 with us and leaving the 1800's prude.

The "depiction" of sex on film/TV is real because it involves "real" human beings who are "really" naked in front of the camera, pretending they are lovers/partners(or whatever) and showing you(the viewer) their naked bodies.
You wouldn't take your clothes off at work just to tell your co-workers that you took a shower in the morning. So why do we ask actors to undress in front of the whole world to tell an audience that the characters are in love?
You don't need to see your parents having sex to know they are in love! You don't ask your wife to have sex with in front of all your friends to profess her deep affections. You don't ask a stranger to take their clothes off in front of eveyone in the mall so everyone can appreciate the beauty of their flawless body and connect with our human roots!
And if you pay someone to take their clothes off it's called prostitution. Whether you give them the money directly or by purchasing a movie ticket.
Please, BE REAL. Stop the BS, and call things as they are.

You do realize in Hollywood sex scene's there's no actual penetration or actual sex involved don't you????
Your logic i flawed because basically you're saying it would be OK to show boogie knights on TV uncensored because mark wahlberg shows a fake penis instead of his real one so it isn't real the same with the sex scene which are all fake so it's OK to show those on TV but you think the worlds going to end if a breast is shown?????
