I read somewhere that there is a final scene that was left out of the released version, which shows the lovers in their old age, with the corked-up antenna still there. I guess that's a happy ending

Watching it really closely I can see them moving around. I'm almost certain they're having sexI didn't see any real redemption, they're completely insane still but they love each other and within that context can be happy. It's the only movie by Park that I've seen in which I smiled at the end and felt generally good and hopeful, it isn't cheesy because they're still insane at an asylum but they've found each other and that's enough for them

That's weird, I honestly thought I saw them actually moving. I thought the reason it was in extreme long-shot was because they were actually "doing it".
I just re-watched the end, and they are definitely moving.

Well; as the love interest (Park Il-Sun) suggested they take their clothes off; it wasn't suggested that they were suffering from hypothermia (involuntary shivering, loss of complex motor skills, shutting down of blood vessels); that Park Chan-wook, the director, intended to have a happy ending; I believe that it was showing just showing Il-Sun and Young-goon lying nude together - perfectly happy. I maybe wrong but wasn't the rainbow the same colour as her toes when she's powered up? I took the ending to mean (noting the cork and antenna) that the two complete each other. Il-Sun protect Young-goon from her belief that she is a cyborg and she has given him her sympathy - or rather her empathy.
