Alex was gay. He was essentially of the cusp of coming out, facing that, when he took the military option instead and used that as a means to, ugh, resolve matters. It wasnt subtle. From his friends to lack of performance with Laura to lots of other little things. I guess it doesnt seem like a big deal for us, but his father was be strong! and being gay where his father grew up.well, yeah. BTW the father hinted that Alexs grandfather was gay. Not in so many words, but the father seemed to know Alexs orientation maybe based on growing up with Alexs grandfather (and over compensating in the macho department because of it).

Alex did question his sexuality, but honestly I don't know if he was. I think a part of him was jealous that his gay friend seemed to have a happier life and I think he thought if he was gay then that might actually make him feel better about himself and his own life.

He absolutely did. Alex flat out said it once if I'm not mistaken.
