Unlike most people it seems, I think Miyazaki's strength lies in
portraying a childlike innocent world. For me the main thing isn't
about the plot, I don't care if there are no conlicts or plot twists.
What this movie brings is an imaginary world like no other, I liked it
even better than My Neighbour Totoro I think. The animation was great
and all the characters were extremely loveable. Every shot in this movie
was like nothing I have ever seen before, it might be in my top 3!
By the way I watched it in Japanese, like everyone should, not
because I'm a dub hater, but because it's the best version for
this movie.

It's a dreadful movie.
A magic goldfish with a human face who falls in love with a boy after an hour? She licks some blood and it turns her into a a human/chicken hybrid looking creep? All she did was shout and copy Sosuke.
The animation was good by anime standars but terrible by American movie standards. The water looked very thick and two dime and some scenes looked like characters walking around a background drawn in crayon.
They kept repeating the same music.
Huge parts of the story made no sense or were glossed over like the fact that humanity could end up underwater. The kids didn't even know that so there was no conflict and when the kid does find out the selfish douche still tries to keep the girl from the man they half make out as the bad guy.
Even for a kids movie it was way too kiddy.

It's my favourite of the Ghibli films. I was really blown away by
Ponyo
. I think it is a masterpiece and the fact that it wasn't even nominated in the Oscar animation category that year is shameful.
Mai Yamane!

It's my second favorite Miyazaki movie after Spirited Away. One of his most creative movies, in my opinion.
