I'm Japanese. When I read this thread,I remembered the tsunami scene of this movie and tohoku tsunami.But this movie makes us happy.So I want us to watch Ponyo and other Ghibli movies.

Nobody is blaming the movie for the tsunami. We were pointing out the similar theme might have got the film cancelled. Its like the scene from the Spiderman movie involving the Twin Towers getting cut out after 9/11. Its the kind of negative association that filmmakers shy away from.

I'm just glad the movie came out in 2008 and wasnt scheduled for this year, or they would have probably shelved it to avoid making people angry.
Which would have been a real shame.

OOOO so you can talk about movies with tsunamis in them stop being whores for attention and get a life, this movie came out 3 years ago.

Well, even though the tsunami you're referring to was, of course, devastating, tsunamis, which itself is Japanese, are a frequent occurrence in Japan. It's something Japan's been dealing with for centuries. Personally, I didn't think they were threatened by a tsunami though. Ponyo's actions caused an imbalance in the world, causing the moon to go out of orbit causing the sea levels to rise.

The film repeatedly seemed relevant to the actual disaster. Not hard to understand.

Complete coincidence and "references" are not the same. x.x

I'm a 58 year old guy and I LOVED this magnificent film.
But I know what you mean, the scary tsunami parallels and references in Ponyo were hard to miss.
