Some of the effects are really bad. The creatures generally look good, but the attack on the Sherminator at the loading doc are awful. The tentacle looks great until it expands and bites him. Then his actual wounds. A lot of the gore in general looks bad.
But it's a great story and premise. Watching the madness unfold as they are faced with these unbelievable monsters is insanity.
The acting is kinda bad at times though. It usually is in King's movies. They're very deliberate and ham-fisted. Daranbout's characters can be too (Walking Dead), so it's like double the melodrama. The acting is both good and bad at times.

Great story, good acting, stunning twist (different from King's short story) at the end.

The movie excels at creating real terror. When the mist first descends upon town, the first monster shows up, the people start to lose it, the 2nd wave of monsters break in, the mob kills the soldier…. It's a truly scary movie.
There's just something about it at times that's a little bad.

Pretty ****ing solid movie. Feels like a B-movie, which I reckon is the point. Haven't watched it in a minute, though. The ending was absolutely brutal. Still remember watching it for the first time a little after it was out on DVD and was absolutely stunned by it and didn't say a word for a few minutes after it was over because I was trying to process what the hell just happened.
Throughout Heaven and Earth, I alone am the honored one.

Contrived: deliberately created rather than arising naturally or spontaneously.
created or arranged in a way that seems artificial and unrealistic.
It is too big a leap that the army was right behind them the whole time. This ending was manufactured to create undeserved tragedy. They could have simply had the family kill themselves and then fade to black without the cavalry arriving, which completely negates the threat of the mist

I'm not sure that's what contrived means. They were at their end. Escaped from those insane people and being followed by creatures everywhere. There was nothing to do and nowhere to go. Hopeless, like t heir situation.

It was dumb and contrived, the army just happened to come by and save Earth 2 minutes after they kill themselves? Would have been better with the book’s ending.

Does this movie use practical effects and CGI? The smaller creatures that break in the store always looked great to me. Most of them did minus the scene in the loading dock and some of the CGI blood.

I was too busy being creeped out and freaked out to notice.
I do think practical efx look way more real than CGI though.
I love the dark twist ending.
We could use more of those.

That's what I think. I like this movie. It's like watching madness unfold in real time. Never seen a movie capture that quite this well. But I'd be lying if I said there isn't times where I'm like, "This is kinda bad."
