This has to be one of the dumber questions I've seen on TBBT board. Why WOULDN'T he date her? Because of the weight? You make it sound as if Leonard is some George Clooney type.

she was not that much overweight, and Leonard dated the hot Priya, could have dated the hot comic book girl, and had the hot Alex come on to him, but he was willing to be in a relationship with the average looking Leslie Winkle.
So even though Leonard could hook up with gorgeous women, which made his insecurities that much more out of place, since he was insecure, his standard were not high. Not that one needed low standards to hook up with an attractive doctor.

I have to admit always being a bit jealous of Sara Rue. Her weight has fluctuated quite a bit during her career but she has ALWAYS been adorably cute. Very much someone you'd want to go out with, even marry and have a family with.

She was maybe carrying 20 extra pounds. She was also beautiful and accomplished, and was for some reason, immediately attracted to Leonard. Unfortunately she was also emotionally needy, probably because of, well, maybe, fat-shaming? Which goes right back to the OP.
