I generally liked the movie Taken, just a nice action-thrill movie connected to the theme of women trafficking. The real disturbing thing was the ending to me.
The tone of the movie suggests that it is a happy ending, while her friend is dead. Somehow I have the idea that Hollywood always lets the least popular, most sinful be killed (first). It looks a bit like: well she was asking for it. Quickly the movies moves away from her death and lets the movie like as if it were a happy end.
Another thing is that I would have rather seen a more realistic movie about trafficing in which rumanian women are forced to become prostitutes. That would have been more realistic, but on the other hand I realize most of the audience would relate less to that story.

I didn't think the movie was all that disturbing. For instance, the scene in Final Destination where the huge log falls off the trailer, BOUNCES off the highway and then decapitates a motorcycle driver in mid-air. Now THAT'S disturbing! LOL!

I own you.

Well, I don't mind the happy endings; that is really not a point when I watch this kind of movies. If I want a disturbing or sad endings, I will choose a disturbing movies to watch. This is obvious a heroism movie; I don't need to even watch the movie to know that so I am expecting a happy ending.
However, I am not happy with the ending even it is a expected happy ending. It kinda killed the mood of the whole action sequences. I guess they put so much efforts in the actions and thrillers, they just feel they can wrap it up with whatever they want. I think the movie should end when the father hugging her daughter and just go home. That is the endings like the old days.
Drama usually ends with good endings; especially the historical ones. Some horror movies end well even the movie itself is poor. Action movies endings is usually quite hard. I think the best ending for an action movie is probably the Fly 1 and 2 if you count them as action movies. The fly 2 is a good example as a very average movie with a really good ending.
Terminator 1 had a good ending. Terminator 2 had an typical ending that finishes the movie very quickly; not the edited version with Sarah Connor endingthat was a poor ending. Die Hard series usually with pretty quick and to the point happy endings.

I don't understand why you're talking about how you'd rather see a completely different movie.
You know there are movies like this right? And in a different genre? If that was what you wanted why didn't you just watch that instead?

It's not quite the same but 'The Whistle Blower' is based on a true life story about a UN cop in post war Bosnia trying to expose sex trafficking into the country. Girls being promised jobs as nannies and how they're forced into submission and abused by even the UN workers. It's not for the faint of heart and has some distressing scenes.
It looks a bit like: well she was asking for it.
I really don't think that's so. Even if she was a nun she was going to be taken, the fact that she was portrayed as a little bit sex mad doesn't mean the director intended her death to suggest she was asking for it. OK the fact that Kim was a virgin saved her from the house with the blue door but you could argue it merely prolonged the inevitable similar fate. The Sheikh seemed to enjoy his virgins. Afterwards I could easily see Kim going back on the market at discount.
it is less likely that you will be grieving for your friend if you just escaped a near death experience yourselfshe is so thankful she is alive they need not talk about that kind of thing.
For a brief time.
Then the flashbacks and Survivor Guilt kick in, for most of the rest of your life.

Well to be fair it is less likely that you will be grieving for your friend if you just escaped a near death experience yourself. It is kind of brushed over how her BFF is dead but she is so thankful she is alive they need not talk about that kind of thing.
