Marg was a product of the great houses of Westeros. It's all about politics and alliances. That's how they stay in power. True she would jump into bed with anyone who could promise her power but that's what she was trained to do.

He did. Catelyn wouldn't have released him otherwise. However, that is beside the point. Brienne

get him to KL.
Moreover, Brienne's had a huge personal influence on Jaime's character that will pay off in a big way this coming season (check out the leaks).
Theone helping Sansa escape would have been a great addition to his ark.

If it wasn't for Brienne, Jaime would have never gotten to King's Landing. He wouldn't have been there to free Tyrion. So Tyrion would be dead and Tywin would be alive. Furthermore, if it wasn't for Brienne, Sansa and Theon would have been recaptured by Ramsay who could very well still hold Winterfell at the moment with Sansa as his slave hostage.

Brienne is more pointless. At least Margaery help forward the plot somewhat.

Her only role for most of the series has been that of a victim, and except for a couple episodes in the show, hasn't done anything. I don't think she is necessarily pointless, but GRRM made a terrible mistake in making her a POV character. She should be a minor background character at best.

In no way pointless. She was pivotal to Cersei's story, Renly's story, Joffrey and Tommen's. She was an important character.
