SW has one above average movie in their trilogy, the LOTRs are all 10/10s.
Faith is a gift that I have yet to receive

LOTR. The first two in each trilogy are on par but Return of the King is much better than Return of the Jedi.

Rings, though I love all 6 films.
Setting and Cinematography: LotR. Middle Earth feels far more lived in than a galaxy where each planet basically has one characteristic (i.e. Sand planet, snow planet).
Characters: Equally tropey, though Gollum stands out as the best character of either series.
Music: Equally perfect.
Story: LotR for sure. Star Wars doesn't even really feel satisfying when it ends because of how terrible the Ewok battle is. Additionally, the first movie feels a little disconnected.

LOTR, mainly because all three movies are consistent and high quality.
Star Wars has two top notch movies and a good but flawed movie, ergo LOTR wins.

Star Wars
LOTR is too much green screen, and the entire adaptation is CGIied to plasticity.
SW as Lucas's original vision is a more impressive achievement.

SW is diluted with 2 out of 7 decent films, while the rest are straight-up bad. If they didn't have epic lightsaber fights, people would not even remember those movies.
