Can you name one thing, in all the history of civilization, that has been accomplished alone?
Anything? Anything one thing at all?
I'll wait.

It isn't about valuing individual over all. It's about rejecting false notions like nationalism. Collectivism is a fine and worthy goal. Drawing a sense of self worth from being part of a group is inherently dangerous and problematic. Help others, help the the whole, but understand your identity and value must come from you.
For all his wisdom, Plato's name has become another word for not getting laid.

Also this
I don't think anything can be accomplished alone, no matter who you are, you have some sort of support (be it material or mental) from the group.
is only one side of it. a group can be supportive and nurturing but it can be just as easily restrictive and oppressive, if not oughtright destructive.
we are social animals by nature. but some individuals tend to function a lot better without a group at least for limited amount of time (read up on Fermat's tlast theorem for an accomplishment mostly achieved without group support)
After all is said and done, a lot more will have been said than done.

Be that as it may, such opinions can be traced to deficient critical thinking skills and considered invalid.

You request information about a seemingly mythological creature. To whom is the group void of value?

We are again in agreement, sir. Personally I value both the individual and the group, because neither would exist without the other.
My main point in asking the question was to see why people who only see value in the individual and none within the group feel that way, because it doesn't really make any sense to me. I don't think anything can be accomplished alone, no matter who you are, you have some sort of support (be it material or mental) from the group.

I am an individualist (or w/e), but I believe a team is full of individuals. If you truly care about yourself then you must recognize that you sometimes have to make sacrifices to better yourself.
It is like being a point guard. You sacrifice getting points by passing the ball a lot, but you help your team win which means YOU win.
If people think with a group mentality then society fails. Thinking "I won't because somebody else will" is a stepping stone to failure. YOU must go out and earn what is yours. Nobody can do it for you.
