Talk about confusing. Where's the continuity? They could have at least cast actresses that somewhat resembled one another - not to mention that "Lord Asherton" could have surely landed himself a stunner. It's just unconvincing that Lynley would fall for a woman who was average-looking AND treated him like crap. Maybe if she had a great personality or it was evident that she REALLY adored him, but for Helen to be nothing much to look at as well as uptight and bitchy? Nup! Can't see it happening.
While I'm at it, maybe Lynley really does prefer less than attractive women because Christine, the lawyer that he has an "almost-fling" with in Season 4 was.well I do want to be kind (woof!). I found myself thinking "Oh, come on, Lynley! If you must cheat on your wife you can do MUCH better than that!". Maybe he's a masochist. Or maybe he isn't shallow and looks aren't everything to him (obviously!). In that case, I suppose I should find it refreshing. In reality though it's a bit hard to believe.
