In 'A Suitable vengeance' (series 2 episode 3) John Penellin killed himself at the end of the episode via an overdose. However, in 'In the Guise of Death' (series 4, episode 2) he is mentioned as being alive and away from the estate and there is no reference to him being ill. Is this correct and a major continuity error with the writers or just a misunderstanding on my part?

As I remember it, the character who killed himself was Dr. Trenarrow. He was the boyfriend of Lynley's mother. Penellin was the estate manager.
