I knew nothing about this movie, but through it on my Netflix queue because of Bacon. I probably would not have wanted to see it had I known, because my brother just entered the military in February and these aren't the visions I want in my head.
All that being said the movie was straight and to the point. The posters that felt it was boring or don't see the point of the film, don't understand internal conflict and needing something to ease that burden. The film was all about Strobl's struggle with his career decision and his guilt. If you didn't see this coming or didn't understand it, I'm sorry.
The scenes in the airports were bone chilling. We never think about what goes on in these wars until it affects us personally. The scene where the tarmac workers pay their respects was beautiful, as was the captains line "I know the names of all the KIA I transport." All around a wonderful film, despite being completely depressing personally.

That's okay, and thank you very much. I can see why there would be anxiety with your brother being in the Army Rangers.
But then again, you don't have to be in the military for something bad to happen.

It was heart wrenching. Sorry about your cousin. I made the "mistake" of watching this with my father about two weeks after my brother was accepted into the Army Ranger program. Needless to say there was and is some anxiety. Not that we look to be upset, but a similar movie that was great was The Messenger with Woody Harrelson & Ben Foster

Yes, this movie is very powerful indeed. I don't usually cry during movies, but I did shed tears watching this one.
Plus, a 2nd cousin of mine was killed in Vietnam. I wasn't here yet when he died, but nevertheless it's a sensitive subject.
