It's a huge, colourful film and deserves the big screen. Also, perhaps, it's too long and a bit slow in places to watch all in one go at home.
But I did like it. If you're a cinema buff it is stuffed full of references to the films we (well, those of us of a certain age) grew up watching and the books and programs about Hollywood consumed. Detailed, fact filled documentary programs, not the sensationalist crap they produce these days.
I liked the archetype characters, the music, especially the use of the La La Land theme throughout. I thought it was clever to weave Singing In The Rain through it and wondered if there would be a similar happy ending for Jack Conrad
it was not to be
. And I think I liked the ending, the cascade of iconic clips that flew past us. Was it supposed to show Cinema is genuinely meaningful or just prove to us how many films we've watched and enjoyed.

It sings the concept of cinema, to young and old, in beautiful way and very visually too

Saw it a long time ago and I've got a copy on my stacks to watch it again - one of these days - if I can find it.

You ever seen
Cinema Paradiso (1988)
?
A loosely similar tale but with a touch more restraint. I'd recommend it
