If you can find it (it was on YT last time I checked), the 1973 BBC mini-series, "Jack The Ripper," takes all its main dialogue from actual contemporary court transcriptions, newspaper reports and police interviews. That adds realism to the piece. It's low budget so it's filmed in a studio rather than at the real crime scenes (many of which no longer exist), but it does have a solid documentary feel to it.

I can think of two American films (there are probably more) that used true-life murder scenes as settings for the crimes. The original "In Cold Blood"(1967) was filmed in the Clutter home, and "Star 80" (1983) used the actual flat of killer Paul Schneider to re-create the murder-suicide that took place there. I would welcome any other bits of this same trivia. Although the subject matter is grim, knowing that you are seeing where events unfolded adds depth to the film. Somehow, I'm guessing that others may find this technique quite ghoulish. Something for everyone.

The same Muswell Hill that was once the home of Dennis Nilsen? Creepy, that. And I'm in the USA!
