the bunker does explode, so it's safe to say he's dead at the end of the movie. But it seemed, based on the flash of light in the bunker door window and a gun near him when Michelle goes to grab his keyring, he seems to have committed suicide before the explosion.</p>

<p dir="auto">No he didn't shoot himself.  I just re-watched that part after reading this and that first bang in the bunker briefly shows flames erupting behind the windows; followed a minute later by the real big explosion.  It was just a small, pre-explosion before the main one happened.<br />
