Howard had kidnapped at least 1 other female, whom he locks (at first) in a room that isn't filled with supplies for the upcoming apocalypse. Meanwhile, Emmett is a kink in the plan, forcing his way in, and as someone who wasn't supposed to be there, has to sleep in a spot with the supplies (which is proof he wasn't supposed to be there), and Howard somehow isn't evil??? What are people thinking?
I suppose Howard could have killed Emmett earlier, before Michelle woke up, so there's that.
Anyhoo, I was thinking early on that Howard slaughtered the dead pigs and hired a woman with chemical/nuclear burns to sell the idea the world had ended. I eventually forgot that it was tied to Cloverfield (even with Howard's "absurd" conspiracy theory that it was aliens). Anyone else think that, or is it just me?
I don't want the world. I just want your half.

I was thinking the exact same thing during the film. By the end my conclusion was Howard kidnaps girls she obviously wasn't the first, maybe he tells them all the same story or maybe he just kidnaps them without the attack story. Imo it was just a coincidence that Howard was right about the aliens as like they say even a broken clock is right twice a day. At the start Howard didn't say it was 100% aliens, he was going on about russians, Koreans and Martians.
It was clever by the director as the majority of viewers (including myself) assume Howard is either a psycho or telling the truth, it never occours to us that its both. He's a psycho who kidnaps and kills girls but he was also telling the truth that an attack had happened on the surface.
