I've watched this several times and it just keeps nagging me. The scene where she's telling him about how many things she'd given up (right before they go to the prison overnight), he has that look on his face like a man who "never promised anything more". And then once she is trapped in her car, the look they exchange just seems to be more than just colleagues - it felt really intimate.
Anyone have any insight?

Exactly, there may have been some attraction there between the two but it doesn't appear they acted on it.

I thought there may have been an attraction or flirtation, but not necessarily a full fledged affair. Nick was watching Sarah about to die, so there was extreme tension of course.

I think they were just close colleagues, whether they were having an affair we will never know because there weren't any signs.
