Bertrand Russell? Interesting chap. Mathematician and philosopher. In his later life when he was attending anti-war demonstrations, he was apparently asked why he was wasting his time on demonstration when you could be doing work in logic and philosophy and doing something of lasting significance, he said "if i'm not out there demonstrating there won't be anyone around to read the logic and philosophy"
