People were repeating similar prophecies back in 1990 after Saddam invaded Kuwait. There was that Nostradamus quatrain about the third anti-Christ wearing a blue turban. Miraculously, someone found a photo of Saddam wearing a turban (though I'm not sure what color it was) and that clinched it for many people: Saddam HAD TO BE the third anti-Christ who was going to usher in the end of the world! Nostradamus books were suddenly flying off the shelves at book shops (I know, I bought one at the time). It was all such rubbish.

Nostradamus has been credited with quite a few 20th Century predictions, and the rise of Adolf Hitler is often cited as one of them. And, to be fair, his writings do provoke a slight chill of recognition.
'From the depths of the West of Europe,' Nostradamus wrote, 'A young child will be born of poor people'. And what does this child do? He will 'by his tongue… seduce a great troop', and his fame will spread far beyond Europe. Another quatrain of possible significance mentions fighting 'close by the Hister' – which is either a loose reference to Hitler, or a more mundane mention of the old name of the Danube river. Depending on your point of view.
Yes, depending on your point of view. "Hister" was most likely referring to the Danube and the line about a young child from Western Europe rising up to become a great leader is vague. Many children of humble origin have gone on to become leaders of men. Nostradamus' prophesies are nothing more than vagueries easily applicable to any time period.
Can't wait till someone finds a photo of Putin wearing a blue turban…or photoshops one into existence.
