I'd say Dead Man's chest! This movie made me love these films and as a result I bought the whole collection last year (plus the lego video game for PS3 :p)! But many people have different opinions! What is yours?

By far the first. It's fantastic on every level.
I do appreciatie the two sequels after the first. I love them but when it comes to quality they're not as great as the first. Worthy sequels imo could've been as bad as On Stranger Tides
To be honest, if Dead Men Tell No Tales is as good as Dead Man's Chest, I'm pleased!
War, what is it good for?

Curse of the Black Pearl and Dead Man's Chest are without a doubt the two best films in the series. I say I enjoyed Dead Man's Chest the most but they are both worth watching.

They each have a different setup and theme.
In the first movie ( which is also the most believable, but not the best film.) We have a curse that causes people to lose the ability to feel, now obviously its not realistic for them to not be able to die but compared to the less realism of every other film, this definitely has somewhat of a more real feel to it.
I have seen the 2nd movie (because it was on the movie network continuously over the course of a month) about 10 x as much as all the other films. however even after that much seeing.. i still enjoy it every time i marathon the series. its very simple the 2nd one has the most danger in it.. Davy jones and the krakken make barbossa look like childs play compared and are to be feared much more. we also start to learn more about jack sparrow and his past. This is also where jack sparrow meets his untimely demise.
as for the third film, I can defniitely understand why it gets the hate, its a lot slower paced, much more story and a lot less action the reason I like the third film is simple. I love seeing gods taken off pedestals, and in this movie, davy jones is taken down from the devil of the ocean to another pawn of the trading company , which becomes a third opponent in the big battle at the end.
While i felt the whole getting jack back a little wierd , it was a very hard plot to execute masterfully so i can be a little more lenient because of this. However I loved barbossa in this, some people say he over acted but in my opinion he was brilliant. I also loved the big finale battle between the two capitol ships. Not to forget that we finally see jack sparrows true heroism finally come out. Jack finally listened to his heart and sacrificed his wanting to live forever and being the most feared pirate of the seas in exchange for allowing a man that betrayed him many times to live.
if this movie series were an rpg.. in the 2nd movie .. Davy jones would be level 99 and his kraken 99 while the good guys were only in their 40s - 50s. whereas by the final b attle , the good guys are all level 100 ( except maybe Keira Knightley who was still only level 80) so they went from being owned by the fish faces to owning their asses. Jack sparrow was even taking on davy jones 1 on one
I didnt see the 4th one more than once.. and ive already forgotten what its about> I am not saying its bad.. I just dont recall the story enough to be able to have a proper opinion about it.

Granted i was baked like a cake in the theaters like i used to be in 2011, but that still didn't change the fact that i remembered something bout the films i was seeing. But i remember thinking it was the worst of the series, remembering nothing about it can't be good.

I would say the 1st one was probably the best but i was equally entertained overall with 2 and 3 with 2 slightly nudging ahead of 3.
4 is absolutely the worst. Started out really well and most of the time felt like a indiana jones movie which i liked, but then you realized how a horrible cast Penelope Cruz is and that she doesnt seem to have acting skills (maybe in spanish movies she has i havent seen em she was ok in Vanilla Sky but still not a actor that can lift her character to a memorable one) also she doesnt work in comedy at all..
The religious tone of the 4th movie also kind of killed this movie the longer it went on. The priest or whatever that wooden guy was was completely out of place, it was like a movie within a movie and like he had no relation to the other characters besides the mermaid. The plot between the 2 of em was the weakest part of the whole movie and felt forced more and more in throughout the movie.

The first one is by far the best. Not only a fantastic pirate movie but also a fantastic movie in general. However, I find myself wanting to watch Dead Man's Chest a lot for the sheer entertaining fun of it. Had great ideas with Davey Jones but you don't really get to see him do anything but play the organ and dice. The Kraken does all the work for him which is fine because each Kraken attack is awesome, just would've liked to of seen Davey Jones be more dominant. In the third one they made him out to be an emotional roller coaster.
I thought Dead Man's Chest made Jack out to be more of a buffoon. The same goes for Davey Jones' crew. The setup of them was awesome. Then at the end on the island they're just running around chaotically yelling and getting owned by elizabeth. I don't think I saw one sophisticated swing of the sword by any of them. Again GREAT ideas for Dead Man's but not executed as well as the first which if done so I would place it over the first.
So for me I have to watch the first two in different mindsets. Dead Man's for shutting my brain off and getting entertained. Curse for keeping my brain on and allowing myself to get sucked in to that world without feeling cheated.
Chest also, I think, takes place on the water more so than the others which I enjoy.
The third one is just a mess and all over the place. By the time we get to the Maelstrom it's a little too late for me. Not to mention why didn't Davey Jones' crew just teleport over and surprise the Black Pearl? Also, while the fight between Davey and Jack was cool I thought they should've utilized Davey's teleportation on his own ship more with the fight. One moment he comes out of the mast then disappears then comes out of the floor. Then he's above him.
I would rank them 1,2,4,3. However, after having said all of that, I did buy them all and enjoy them all in one way or another, the first two especially.
