I've heard a number of people of East Asian heritage saying that racism towards them is the last form of racism that's acceptable in Hollywood. Worse still, positive portrayals are almost completely absent. The main criticisms seem to run along the lines of 'Men are either evil or emasculated. Women are either evil or fawning over white men'.
Well after watching this truly terrible movie (and a few others recently) I can't help but start to appreciate the point.
Sung Kang should be embarrassed to play this horrific clich. He's supposed to be playing half of the typical 'odd couple' ..a cop with an assassin.but what we actually get is a totally incompetent, emasculated bumbler who constantly needs to be saved and educated like a cross between a damsel in distress and Stallone's wet behind the ears son. It's just embarrassing.
Now i know this film is a train wreck anywaybut after getting into one of these kinds of debates on a Year of the Dragon board it's quite revealing to see with Bullet to the Head that things haven't changed in 30 years.
