Julia is very good here. I don't agree that her range better than Meryl's. I don't see much at all her scale runs from Erin Brockovich through the nicey nice girls to this character maybe?
Then take a look at Meryl's roles.

Yeah. Some totally amazing acting in this film. It should have gotten more recognition.

I really like Julia as well. It was nice seeing her in a different role and not being so sweet.

I agree, she is a fine actor and it's so nice to see an actor of her generation who hasn't been visiting the surgeons and actually looks to be ageing naturally.
