Does anyone know any other movies dealing with toxic families/parents? And by "toxic," I don't mean movies depicting dysfunctional families who, at the end of the day, are still there for each other ("Family Stone," "Meet the Parents," etc.). But I also don't mean depictions of two-dimensionally, cut-and-dry abusive families.
The thing I loved about this movie so much was that it showed one of the most realistic portrayals of a toxic family I've ever seen. Violet wasn't cut-and-dry abusive but was instead toxic and manipulative and for compelling reasons, not just for the sake of being "evil." But in the end, she WAS toxic and eventually drove all of her children away.
On the other hand, it also showed that not adhering to the belief that family, no matter how damaging/unhealthy, should stick together wasn't the end of the world. Some of the relationships did (presumably) survive the poison, like Charles-Little Charles and Little Charles-Ivy, but it was okay that certain relationships wouldn't survive, like Violet and her daughters.
Any suggestions?

Classic Cat On A Hot Tin Roof. Great cast. One huge family argument. Elizabeth Taylor or Paul Newman never again looked so beautiful.

One of THE most toxic, dysfunctional, manipulative, screwed-up and totally broken down group of family, friends, and neighbors that I HAVE EVER SEEN in a movie were the characters in "The Royal Tenenbaums".
But you have to be open to appreciating a very dark comedy/drama by Wes Anderson.
Gene Hackman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Angelica Houston,
Ben Stiller, Danny Glover, Luke Wilson. need I say more?
(I hope you) ENJOY!
